Cancer is a very diverse and complex set of diseases which can have a multitude of causes, many of which medical science is only beginning to study and understand. Certain causes and types of cancer have a direct and obvious link. Most lung cancers, for example, are nearly all directly triggered by smoking. Mesothelioma is caused almost exclusively by prolonged asbestos exposure, and too much ultraviolet (UV) light has been proven to cause skin cancer. Many people, however, aren’t aware that in some kinds of cancer, diet can be a major factor. Further, Oncologists are now actively urging people to avoid certain specific food types as being the most prevalent in possibly causing some cancers. The food types most dangerous are refined sugars, processed meats, farmed fish, microwaved popcorn, potato chips, pickled or smoked foods, hydrogenated oil, and refined white flour. An Investigation Institute in Stuttgart, Germany found a carcinogenic chemical called N-Nitrosamine in condoms when they were tested in simulated conditions. The condoms were placed in aCondoms Contain Cancer-Causing Carcinogenic Chemical The reasons that these foods, in particular, are dangerous can be basically split into two groups. One is that these foods tend to cause weight gain and are typical of an unhealthy lifestyle overall. The other is that chemicals within the foods, often used for preservative purposes or to make the food more aesthetically pleasing are in fact extremely harmful. In the majority of cases, specific food types aren’t flagged as a hazard due to the fact that pinpointing a specific food within a varied diet as being harmful is very difficult. Similarly, the effects of small amounts of chemicals entering the body tend to be cumulative and can take many years to actually produce a noticeable effect, such as triggering cancerous cells to begin growing. Because many of the chemicals used in food preparation are also fairly new, long-term studies into their effects on health are also lacking. Meaning that people are being exposed to very dangerous and cancer inducing chemicals every day through a wide variety of sources without ever knowing anything about it, the end result being that years later a cancer diagnosis is made. Processed meats, for example, were found in a study by the University of Hawaii to increase risks of pancreatic cancer by 67% in regular consumers. Smoked foods similarly contain nitrates which accumulate in the body over time, increasing the risk of a variety of cancers. Refined sugars also create insulin spikes which can eventually lead to diabetes, and cancer cells also grow more quickly if refined sugars are readily available as they are easy to metabolize. Microwaveable popcorn bags are coated with perfluorooctanoic acid, which again increases the risk of a multitude of cancers. The best way to avoid foods that may contain harmful chemicals and increase cancer risk is to try to eat organically sourced and non-processed foods. Maintain a healthy weight, stay active and avoid smoking or drinking to excess.
